Red Faction: Guerrilla

Welcome to Mars

This is the tutorial section. Your objective is to destroy the Laboratory and Tower.

Move down the hill and you'll see a piece of scrap metal to pick up. From now on you'll want to pick up scrap whenever you find it. You pick up scrap by walking over it. Just past the scrap is a wall. In this game walls aren't barriers, they're targets. Walk up to it and smash it with your sledgehammer. You'll break a hole in it and you can walk trough.

You can then use your charges to blow up the building to your left. Make sure you're outside the building when you blow the charges. It will take up to six to destroy the building. You'll then have to destroy the tower nearby. The location is marked on your mini-map. Once the tower is down you'll be told you have to leave. You actually have as much time as you want, so you can destroy some of the other buildings and pick up some scrap, if you choose. Return to the truck to end this mission.

Parker

Better Red Than Dead

Your contact, a man by the name of Hugo Davies, will issue you instructions. You must travel to the base just north of Parker and destroy it. There is a vehicle nearby, hop in and drive it to the base. Once there you'll see blue barrels and white gas tanks all over the base. Shoot them and they will explode. As you destroy the base your alert level will go up. This will cause some EDF troops to arrive. Take them out with your assault rifle and continue to destroy the base (with either your sledgehammer or by shooting barrels). Once the base is destroyed hop back in your vehicle (or steal one of the EDF vehicles) and go back to Parker.

Ambush

If you want to plan ahead, bring an EDF vehicle with a turret.

Head over to the marker and take out the EDF Troops you see there. You'll then have a few minutes to prepare for an EDF attack. They will enter the area using the road, and Sam will indicate a bridge they have to cross under. Place some remote charges under the bridge for when the attack comes. You can also use the turret on the vehicle you brought.

Start Your Engines

Take out the towers, and keep the EDF busy until the Red Faction can get its people through.

Your mission is to destroy the towers marked on your map. There is no time limit, and the convoy won't reach its destination until you get all the towers. Use the truck provided. It has better armor and speed than any other vehicle you're going to find.

The best way to destroy the towers in run over/through them with the truck. The EDF is going to come after you with their own vehicles , so the mission ends up being a demolition derby. The best way to avoid damage is to keep moving.

If your truck flips over and lands on its roof you have several options: climb out and flip the truck with your Use key (default E), wait for the EDF to ram you and hope the impact flips you back over, or hop out and try to steal an EDF vehicle. Whatever you do, don't try to proceed with the mission on foot, find a vehicle as soon as you can.

Completing this mission will unlock the rocket launcher and level 1 armor.

Dust

Ultor Echo

The first part of this mission asks you to follow a Marauder vehicle. Once you get to it, you have to stay close enough that you don't lose it, but far away enough that they don't see you. On your mini-map you'll see a red circle all around you. This circle covers a large area around the Marauder vehicle. As long as you stay inside this circle you won't lose the Marauder. There is a second smaller circle made up of a red line around the vehicle. You must stay out of this circle or they will see you.

When they get to an open field they will go through a portal. Follow them and you'll come out the other side. Head to the marker and you'll find the Marauder vehicle. Hop out and explore they nearby Marauder base. Try not to destroy these buildings more than you have to, it will make getting out of here harder. In the first building you find, which is in ruins, head to the top floor and punch a hole in the west wall. You can then take the path that you find In the next building you'll find a door you can break open, which leads you to a garage. Bash you way into the garage and out the other side. The next building is in a hole, enter it and you'll find a machine (you'll find out later it's called a Nano-Forge). Go to this machine and activate it. You'll hear that the EDF is moving in, and you'll have to get out.

Make your way back through the buildings. You'll have to fight a few EDF troops in small groups. When you get back to your vehicle, you'll find the EDF in a full firefight with the Marauders. There are far too many to take out, so just make a run for the nearest vehicle and hop in. Drive like the wind to the marker where Sam is waiting for you. Once you get to her, the mission will end.

Rallying Point

Your mission is to stop Gunnarsen and get the workers out alive. The easy way to do this mission is to arrive with a vehicle that has a Gauss Turret (a cannon mounted on top of the vehicle). You can use it take out all the targets this mission requires.

Head over to the marker and take out the EDF soldiers shooting at the protesters. They are out in the open, so a heavy vehicle or one with a turret works well. After that you'll have to take out the speakers indicated on your map. Don't bother fighting the EDF near the speakers, just destroy them and keep moving. Finally you'll have to chase down Gunnarsen himself. He starts off in a compound, but don't try to attack him there. He's going to leave in a car. Pull your truck in front of the compound and get ready to take him out. You can either blast him with a rocket or turret, or set up mines, or just crash into him.

Industrial Revolution

The walker is in a garage in the back of an EDF compound. Charge in with a heavy vehicle, then hop out and run to the back of the garage. The door is locked, but the sledgehammer will open it. Hop into the walker. Walk out to the road, ignoring the EDF. Head over to the truck and stand in the marker. The walker will get on the truck.

In the next section, you'll be firing a cannon on the back of the truck, keeping the EDF at bay. The gun only shoots to the rear, so focus on keeping the EDF from chasing you.

Badlands

Access Denied

Your mission is attack the EDF forces who are trying no retake a building. Hold them back until your team is clear. First off head over to the marker and take out the few enemies you see. After they are dead use the weapons crates here where you can pick up some proximity mines (recommended).

Next, you'll be ordered to set up an ambush to stop enemy reinforcements. Although there are indicators on the map that show ambush points, you don't have to go to them. All you have to do is defend the building. You can set up ambushes where the game suggests, or put them closer to the building.

The first marker is a good point to set up an ambush, so site on your map. Put down some proximity mines and arm an anti-vehicle weapon. EDF vehicles will come in ones and twos. Take them all out. Eventually one or more vehicles will break through. At this time, ignore the markers and head back to the building. Destroy all the enemies here. There is as cannon

Catch and Release

First, head over to the first marker, where your contact is waiting. Once there you'll see on your map four targets. Instead of marching through the main gate, head to the top the hill to the southwest. You can even drive a vehicle up there. This position lets you fire down on the whole area. You'll see three cars, and a bunch of EDF troops. Broga is in the middle car, so don't shoot that one. Take out all the enemies in whatever way you want.

Once the area is clear hop into the car that Broga is in. You'll be manning the gun while your ally drives. You should aim for the aircraft first because they are quick to take out but do a lot of damage. Keep shooting and eventually you'll get to the end of the ride.

Emergency Response

Destroy the roadblocks. The turrets (machinegun bunkers) are the top priority.

Head over to the first checkpoint. Here you'll have to take out both machineguns. As soon as you arrive the truck will start heading to you, so you have only a limited time to take out the guns. Ramming your vehicle into the guns is a good way to go. If you destroy your vehicle there is another one in the north part of the checkpoint.

At the second checkpoint you'll only have to kill the EDF there, you don't have to destroy any of the guns. Once you have the area clear, you'll need to defend it. If the machineguns here still work, use them. The first wave has several vehicles, the second has only one.

Air Traffic Control

Your mission is to destroy the five aircraft. The best way to do this is to; first kill the guard at the gate with the nano rifle you can then walk on to the air base without raising the alarm, on your left there is a slope - climb this until you can see all five gunships laid out before you. Again using the nano rifle take out the gun ships (3 or 4 shots each) to escape destroy the EDF vehicle at the gate (may as well use the nanao rifle) and run.

Oasis

Blitzbrieg

In this mission you'll have to stop two groups of tanks. Mines work well, all you have to do is place them along the road. The first wave has only one tank. The second wave, at the second location has three. If the mines don't work, you can grab an EDF vehicle with a Gauss turret and take them out that way, use a rocket launcher, your nano rifle, or throw remote charges at them.

When you've gotten the second group of tanks you'll be asked to take out the remaining EDF forces. There are two groups, and each group has one tank. Keep your eyes open for powerful vehicles you can use. The second of these two locations has a heavy walker armed with rockets you can use.

Freefire Zone

The Guns of Tharsis

Although it doesn't sound like it from the mission description, this is really a race. You'll be driving from waypoint to waypoint before a timer runs out and the guns target you. You'll want a fast car, don't worry about how much armor it has. If you don't have a good vehicle, one will appear when you accept the mission. Keep moving and know that your allies will constantly run into you. Many of the waypoints are very close to each other, so you might want to slow down when you hit one so you don't overshoot the next. When you cross the bridge you'll move to the next phase of the mission.

Your new task is to destroy the artillery gun power cores. You'll have to fight your way in, but when you actually get to the cores it only takes a few remote charges to take them out.

Once you have completed the mission you'll have liberated the Free Fire Zone. This means you can instantly go to the safehouse in Eos if you have the Guerrilla Express.

Eos

Many parts of Eos are rugged. Vehicles aren't always the best way to get around. You will want to invest in the Jetpack. Also, the EDF soldiers here are harder than previous levels, so you'll want to carry heavy weapons at all times.

The Dogs of War

Your mission is to kill the eight snipers. They are located in two different buildings. The snipers are dressed in white armor. You have options when it comes to killing them. You can either enter the building and take them out at close range, or you can use a long range weapon like the nano rifle and kill them from a distance. The area is unsuited to vehicles.

The best way to do this mission is with the sniper rifle and the jetpack. When you accept the mission, walk to the west. The building with the first group of snipers is across the street. If you look to your left there is a pedestrian bridge you can use that will take you to the rear of the building. The first sniper is on the west side of the third floor. Shoot out some of the windows on the second or third floor and use the jetpack to get to them. Three are stairs that go from the second to the third floor. At close range the snipers are easy to take out. There are two more on the roof. Break one of the nearby windows and use the jetpack to get up to the roof. Take out both the snipers.

From here you can see another pedestrian bridge to the west. Jump off the building and fly over there. Head through the bridge, but watch out when you get to the end because there are some EDF on the other side. When you get off the bridge, take a right. Ahead you'll see another bridge to your left and a hill on your right. Use the jetpack to get up the hill. It can't get you up there in one go, but there are plenty of places to land on the side of the hill where the jetpack can recharge. When you get to the top of the hill you'll see the building on the other side. Edge your way over the crest of the hill until you can see just one sniper at a time and take them out. There are three on the roof and two inside at the windows.

Death by Committee

Your mission is to kill the businessmen. You have only a few minutes to get to the conference before they start to leave. The easy way to do this is to mine the road that leads out of the building. You can either put mines at the main gate, or some under the tunnel and some more on the other road leading out. Walk in and start shooting. Hop in one of the vehicles here and jump on its turret. Shoot the business men as they try to leave. They will attempt to get into the vehicles and drive off. The mines will stop any of them that get by you.

Hammer of the Gods

This mission starts at your western safehouse. Your first objective is to pick up your squad, which is located on the other side of the map. If you have the Guerrilla Express, you may want to use it to get there faster.

Once you pick up your squad hop in the truck they have there and head for your objective. On the way you'll get a radio call that the main rebel base is under attack. You'll then have three minutes to get there. When you get to the base you'll get a message from Sam, and your new objective will be to get to her. The path between you and her is rugged and filled with EDF. You can take the truck you're driving all the way there, assuming you don't get it stuck or destroyed by the EDF.

Once you get to Sam, you'll come under attack by the EDF and you'll have to fight them off. You'll notice there are four entrances between the hills, and the enemy will come through these four gaps. You can lay mines here if you have them. This fight will be at close range and you'll have to take out a lot of EDF foot soldiers. After you've killed enough EDF, the area will be secure.

After this mission you'll unlock Radiation Shielding for purchase at the upgrade shop. It costs 125 salvage. If you have that much already, just go to the nearest safehouse. If you don't have that much, there is a transport mission that starts nearby, and it's worth 100 salvage.

Meeting the Marauders

To start this mission, you'll need the radiation shielding from the upgrade shop. Once you have it you can head for the mission start location. Once you get to the Marauder city, you'll see the mission start location, but there is no road that leads to it. If you look closely on the map, you'll see a gully runs through the Marauder city. There is a bridge to the west of the start location that crosses this gully. Use this bridge to get to the start location. Of course, getting to the west end of this bridge requires you to drive through the town, but you'll be able to get there. Once you get to this marker, you'll complete this mission.

Emergency Broadcast System

The start point for this mission is just east of the eastern safehouse in Edos. Head over to the first marker where you'll pick up Sam. Next, you'll have to head over to the Voice of Mars building. There are several roadblock along the way, so just bust through them. In the Voice of Mars building is a broadcast console. If this console is destroyed (even if you just run over it) you will fail the mission. You'll also have to defend the nearby radio tower.

When you get there, Sam will play a taped recording. You have to defend the building until the recording is done playing. The EDF will attack, but in a different style than usual. They come in ones and twos, and try to place singularity bombs just outside the building. A few of these will destroy the console, so kill the EDF before they can plant them.

The symbols on your mini-map are a little different for this mission than other missions. Enemies are marked as yellow exclamation point (!) symbols, and the two targets you're trying to defend have the shield symbol usually reserved for friendly units.

There are two weapons boxes here, so grab whatever weapons you want. If you're using mines, place them on the small hill just north of the building, and on the southwest corner of the plaza where the broadcast tower is. You can also grab one of the turret armed EDF vehicles and park it on the northwest corner of the plaza, this will give it a good field of fire against most routes the enemy will use to attack.

Once the message is done you'll have to drive Sam back to the safehouse.

Manual Override

This mission starts just west of your western safehouse in Eos. Head over to the marker and take out the handful of EDF troops there. Enter the building and you'll find the console. Once here you'll take control of a satellite. You'll see a top down view, but the camera doesn't zoom out. Use the guns to destroy any vehicle that gets near the truck. You have unlimited ammo, so just keep shooting. Eventually the truck will stop and you'll have to destroy a roadblock. Each of the tanks will take several shots to destroy. Blast everything and the truck will start moving. Just past the roadblock the truck will reach its destination.

Guerrillas at the Gates

From the start location drive to the marker and pick up the vehicle. Head to the next marker. This is a power station. Drive up to it, and throw some remote charges into the core. There is a Gauss turret mounted farther up the hill, so fighting the EDF here is going to be harder than it looks. You may want to just charge in with your truck, hop out, plant the bombs, and get out. Once you destroy this building you'll be joined by a group of guerrillas and Marauders.

Head up the road and you'll come to the first gate. Take out the EDF here and move forward. You'll see a wall, and just past that is a heavy walker. Hop in and use it to take out everything you see. Just start blasting at everything that moves. When you've taken out most of the enemy, take a look at your map. You'll see three markers all together, and a single marker on its own. Take the walker to this single marker and destroy the building here. Then head toward the three remaining markers. On the way you'll pass a place that looks like a motor pool. You'll find another walker there. If the one you're driving is damaged, take the new one. Again, march forward and blast everything you see. Take out the three remaining buildings and you'll complete the mission.

Mars Attacks

Although your instinct will tell you to hold on to your walker from the last mission to use for this mission, don't bother because if you do it will disappear before you get a chance to use it.

Head over to Sam and use the console. Then you'll have to go to the building next to you and use the satellite to destroy EDF vehicles as they come up the road.

Next, see Sam again and she'll order you to the top of the mountain. Hop in the tank that is parked out front and head over there. Getting there is going to be more difficult than just driving over there. The road goes through a narrow valley and it's filled with EDF. You'll need to use the tank to blast your way through. Eventually you'll get to a line of boulders you can't pass with the tank. Get out and proceed on foot. There are a couple of weapons boxes just past the boulders.

The good news is that you don't have to fight all the EDF here. You can stay to the right side of the path and use the jetpack to get around many of the EDF. There are also some Marauders here to help you out. Head up to the top of the hill, and you'll see two markers.

One marker is a tank. General Roth is inside this tank, so you'll have to destroy it. Hide behind the building on the left side of this area. This will get you out of the line of fire of the EDF in the other vehicles, but because the tank is farther out you can still shoot it. Use whatever weapons you have: the nano rifle, mines, a rocket launcher. If you run out of ammo or don't have good weapons, use the weapon box here.

Your next task is to open the launch door. The "door" is a cover over the launch tube. Blast it, with whatever weapon you have, or one of the vehicle's Gauss turrets. When it is destroyed, you'll have beaten the game.

  • Easy healing

When your health is low during any mission, enter any vehicle for a few seconds. Once you get out of the vehicle, your health/shield will be completely healed. This works anytime, and you cannot die while getting into a vehicle.

  • Easy sledgehammer kills

Use the following trick to easily unlock the "Super Hammer" cheat, which requires 100 EDF kills with the sledgehammer. Go to Dust near the Chemical Depot that is by the Badlands. Kill a few guards, then go back out of the depot. Wait for cars to pass by, then take them from the civilians and guerrillas. Form a wall using these cars with only two openings just big enough for people to fit through. Wait for the EDF to start coming in through the holes. Take out the sledgehammer and hit them with it. If they start trying to bash the car wall, blow up their cars. You can use the sledgehammer, but it will take awhile. Try using the explosives because the kills do not have to be all in a row. Keep doing this until you have killed enough EDF. Note: Do not go into the Chemical Depot.

  • Fast vehicle repairs

To repair any vehicle quickly, just use Guerrilla Express while inside your vehicle. The vehicle can now be found in or near the camp you traveled to, with no damage.

Exit a vehicle near the end of a mission. Successfully complete the mission, and return to the vehicle. It will be fully repaired.

If you hijack an EDF tank, you are unable to heal it by teleporting to a safehouse. In fact, the tank disappears. You are however able to heal tanks or any other vehicles by going to a demolitions master. Leave the area during the event, and you will fail. After the challenge ends, you should have a full health EDF tank where you left it before the challenge.

  • Fixing overturned vehicles

Exit a vehicle after it overturns. When it is on its roof, walk near it, and re-enter it. Repeatedly tap [Enter Vehicle], and the vehicle will turn over with its wheels back on the ground.

  • Finding radio tags

Purchase the satellite locator upgrade with recovered salvage at any safehouse. Get a vehicle, and start driving around. When you get within range of a radio tag, a small pulsing green dot will appear on your map. Follow the map. The green dot indicates the location of a missing tag. Some of the tags are in difficult to reach locations. Using a dune-buggy type vehicle is recommended.

  • Martian Lander

Southeast of the Badlands safehouse near a large group of ore is what appears to be a Mars Exploration Rover. It is marked as a vehicle on the map, but cannot be controlled or destroyed.

  • Strange dialogue

If you kill your brother, Dan, at the very beginning of the first mission, you will die instantly, but the death message reads "WTF? You killed your brother?"

  • Red Faction references

The area "Parker" of Mars is named after the protagonist in the original Red Faction. The area "Eos" of Mars is named after the Faction's leader in the original Red Faction.

  • Saints Row 2 references

When you are around people, they will sometimes say things about Ultor, which is the company from Saints Row 2. They will also say "Damn drones confiscated my Feed Dogs collection", which is the band from Saints Row 2.

The area "Mt. Vogel" of Mars is a reference to Dean Vogel, whom you had to kill in the last mission of Saints Row 2. You also only get to enter it during the last mission before the campaign is complete.
